Travel Lake of God in Bangladesh – Boga Lake

God Lake is also called Boga Lake. This amazing reservoir is located in Bandarban, the most remote and least populated area of Bangladesh. This area is full of lush greenery, hills, cliffs, zigzag paths, streams, and mountain scenery. The area is also home to three of the country’s highest peaks. The Lake of God is a lake also known as Bagakane, or Baga.

It is believed that the lake area is the ancient habitat of the ancient gods of the local Khumi tribe. According to local stories, one of the gods went mad and first ate all the people, and then reappeared in the form of a dragon, causing a strong earthquake and thus creating a lake in the place where the poor victims lived. The name, “Boga”, comes from “baga”, which means “fiery dragon”. Since then, the lake has never dried up, although an obvious external source of water replenishment has never been found. Every spring, the crystal-clear waters of the lake turn cloudy and change color, fueling the imagination of the locals and giving rise to supernatural stories. You will hardly find it in the list of the most beautiful lakes in the world, but it is indeed a picturesque place shrouded in many legends.

God Lake is 67 km from Bandarban and 20 km from Ruma Tana. Its total area is about 15 acres at an altitude of about 900 m above sea level. In addition to enjoying the magical landscape with its pristine waters, Boga changes color depending on the season, humidity levels and sunlight. Surrounded by three majestic mountain peaks, massive cliffs and bamboo groves, you can also explore the nearby communities

To get to God Lake you will need to get to Bandarban from Dhaka by bus. Then, head to Ruma Gat. Cross the Sanga river by boat and in 30 minutes you will be at Rama Bazaar where you have to hire a guide and register at the military checkpoint. They usually register your name and the name of the guide, as well as other additional information. Lake of God can only be reached on foot. Get ready for a 5-7 hour hike. It is recommended that you carefully pack your backpack. You will need water, medical supplies, and extra clothing.
