Bangladesh develops tourism sector

Bangladesh is looking to welcome more tourists. In 2021-2022, the state allocated about 660 million taka (almost $8 million) for the development of this tourism sector, according to news

The government plans to modernize an area already well known to travelers, Cox’s Bazar. This is the only seaside resort and beach area of Bangladesh, located in the very southeast of the country, near the border with Myanmar. There are about 220 kilometers of beach areas and the cleanest sea, but the tourist infrastructure is poorly developed.

About 800,000 visitors visited Bangladesh during 2021 and six months of 2022, according to the local Tourism Board. Most travelers come from India – primarily from the neighboring state of West Bengal.

The country has been developing the tourism business not so long ago: the Tourism Board was created only in 2010. Apart from India, Spain, Germany, Great Britain, China, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore are recognized as the main promising markets.

Bangladesh is located in a fertile region between the Ganges and Brahmaputra rivers. The country is surrounded by India along the entire perimeter, with the exception of small sections of the border with Myanmar in the southeast and the Bay of Bengal. A huge number of monuments of religion and history have been preserved here.

Citizens of Russia and CIS countries require a visa to visit Bangladesh. It can be issued both upon arrival at the international airport of Dhaka and at the consular department of the Bangladesh Embassy in Moscow or at the embassies and consulates of Bangladesh located in neighboring states.
